New and existing care workers and other practitioners working in the health and social care settings.What Will I Learn?
By the end of this course, you will:
- Understand the role of the first aid responder
- Know how to assess an emergency situation and act appropriately
- Know how to administer first aid to a casualty who is bleeding or has been burnt or scalded
- Know the symptoms of back injuries and how to deal with such an injury
- Know the symptoms of broken limbs and how to deal with them
- Know the three categories of head injuries and how they are treated
- Know the symptoms of poisoning and how to administer first aid to an individual who has been poisoned
- Understand the AVPU code
- Be able to provide first aid for an unresponsive casualty
- Recognise the requirement for and administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Be able to recognise and administer first aid to a person who is choking
- Be able to recognise and manage a casualty who is suffering from shock
- Know how to provide first aid for minor injuries
